Subscribers attach to a channel, so send your channel's address — usually the @handle form, though the older /channel/UC… address works too:

Links that won't collect subscribers
- A video link (youtube.com/watch?v=… or youtu.be/…) — that shape is for views.
- A YouTube Studio link (studio.youtube.com/…) — it only opens for you, so nobody else can reach the channel through it.
- A channel that is private or has been renamed since you copied the link.
- A playlist link; playlists can be saved but not subscribed to.
How YouTube counts and displays subscribers
YouTube treats subscriber numbers more carefully than most platforms. These rules explain what you'll see on your channel and in Studio.
Public counts are rounded
Above 1,000, YouTube abbreviates the public subscriber count to three significant figures — 12,345 shows as 12.3K — so the public number only moves when you cross the next rounding step.
Studio shows the real number
YouTube Studio and YouTube Analytics display your exact subscriber count and the daily gains and losses, which is the place to confirm any delivery.
The Partner Program milestone
To earn from ads through the YouTube Partner Program a channel needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in a year or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. A lower tier for fan-funding features starts at 500 subscribers in eligible countries.
Spam subscribers get removed
YouTube periodically removes subscribers it identifies as spam or closed accounts, and says counts may drop as a result. Organic channels see these adjustments too.
Subscribers see you in their feed
A subscription puts your uploads in the viewer's Subscriptions feed. Notifications only arrive if they choose All on the bell, so subscribers and viewers are never exactly the same number.

Subscribers count towards the 1,000 threshold, but the Partner Program also requires watch hours or Shorts views and a review of your channel by YouTube. Subscribers alone don't make a channel eligible.
Can my channel be brand new?
